ALAN MORLEY
Leading Teesside artist. Secretary of one of the oldest art groups of its kind in the country – the Cleveland Art Society (founded 1884) – the group which ultimately created the need for MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art). Part of the management team of Gallery TS1 – Middlesbrough’s art and craft co-operative. A member of 24NE Collective – Sunderland’s premier contemporary art gallery. Part of the ‘New Image Painting’ or ‘New Image Art’ (also known as ‘New Wave Painting’) movement of the 1980s which fuelled Brit Art with a visual dynamic for its new generation of conceptual energy at the end of the same decade. He now continues to work and teach across multiple disciplines of painting on his home turf – the ‘Teesside art scene’ (a title he coined).
His work is published in art books and magazines and is in private and public collections in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, mainland China, Italy, France, Poland, USA, Canada and throughout the UK.
Author of ‘The Cleveland Art Society Souvenir Edition Celebrating 140 Years’, and the ‘MORLEY’ book series which charts his command of painting from early years of learning as a child to position as a British painting master.
